Friends of Alan Ross Fundraiser donate £2,000 to Pat Munro Foundation

An incredibly generous donation of £2,000 to the Pat Munro Foundation has been made by Friends of the Alan Ross Fundraiser, in memory of local Tain man Alan Ross, who sadly died last October following a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. The cheque was presented to the Foundation last week by Liz Ross, Alan’s wife and their daughter Sharon Nichol. Pat Munro has also pledged to match the donation which means a total of £4,000 will go towards helping local charities and community group.
Alan was a lively character who lived in Tain all his life and spread joy and happiness to all who knew him. His sense of fun and infectious smile always meant that you came away from meeting him feeling that much better. He loved his family and friends dearly and had a natural zest for life which rubbed off on everyone he encountered. Alan saw the joy in everything!
Alan’s wife Elizabeth said,
He was just a great guy. So loving and kind in every way to me and the kids. He’d do anything for anyone. All our neighbours knew that he’d look out for them too. It didn’t matter who you were, he was sociable, and he’d entertain you. A natural with others, he’d put people at ease and just draw them in. He was an honest and open person. Just a really lovely man.
The Alan Ross Fundraiser organised by Alans lifelong friend Jim Oliver, with the amazing support of his family, friends, local businesses, and the community was held back in the summer of 2021 and was testament to how fondly Alan was thought of. It successfully raised over £20,000 and Alan and his family were keen that the proceeds go to local charities and causes to benefit the people of the Highlands.
Already donations have been made to a number of different organisations including The Oxygen Works for an Oxygen Concentrator and masks, Highland Hospice for the purchase of virtual reality walks equipment, Maggies, Tain St Duthus FC, a club dear to Alan’s heart and MFR Cash For Kids to purchase clothing and essential items for underprivileged children.
Jim Oliver said,
Alan’s wife Liz, his children and all the family were very keen for all the money raised to stay locally and benefit the community. Through these donations Alans memory will live on and it is hoped that we can make the fundraiser an annual event to continue his legacy well into the future.
