Jubilee Park Road Surfacing

Client The Highland Council
Location Jubilee Park, Dingwall

Project Summary

The project commissioned by The Highland Council involved Pat Munro Surfacing carrying out an “inlay” at Jubilee Park Road, Dingwall, removing the surface layer of the road using our Wirtgen W100 Fi Planer and the existing asphalt pavement to a specified depth. Once complete, we lay the same specified depth on the milled surface ensuring it had a brand-new surface layer and was kept at the same level as the old surface layer.

There were several challenges due to the location of the works which we were successfully able to overcome. As the project took place directly outside Ross County Football Club it meant we needed to work to a tight window after the football season had ended and before the school summer camps started. We also had to give plenty of notice to Scottish Water who are currently carrying out a major sewer replacement job in the vicinity of the works and it was key that we didn’t fall back on our programme to ensure they didn’t either. The popular caravan park at the top of the site also remained open so we paid careful attention and provided a constant safe access and egress from the caravan park for both vehicles and pedestrians.

A preliminary assessment was carried out to determine the condition of the existing road including its dimensions, any underlying issues, its structural integrity, and the areas that required milling and resurfacing and to what depth and thickness. Proposals were then submitted to the client along with material selection options. During works we developed a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure the safety of road users and workers during the milling and resurfacing operations

Cold milling equipment, including our new planer and trucks, were delivered to the site and the existing asphalt surface was removed to the specified milling depth, using our own planer equipped with appropriate milling teeth. All milled material was collected and disposed of adhering to environmental regulations and recycling guidelines. Continuous quality control was conducted during the milling process to ensure accurate depth, smoothness, and evenness of the milled surface.

During surface preparation debris was removed and the milled surface inspected for any remaining irregularities and the new asphalt material was laid and compacted using pavers and rollers to achieve the desired thickness, density, and surface regularity to avoid future settlement or rutting issues. This was continuously monitored and adjusted to achieve uniform density across the resurfaced road.

On completion of works final inspections and quality control checks took place to ensure the resurfaced road met the specified requirements and industry standards.

Overall, we were able to add value to the client by working in collaboration with our colleagues in the Haulage department who organised all trucks, plant movement and the road sweeper and our Quarries department who organised, made and distributed all materials.

The final part of the work will be to reinstate road markings, symbols, and signage in accordance with design plans and applicable regulations.
